📝Ingredient Notes
- Mayonnaise: Use a good quality mayonnaise (and preferably do not use miracle whip. Miracle whip is sweeter than mayonnaise). I like to use Duke's mayonnaise because I think it has the best flavor. Hellman's is also another good choice!
- Mustard: Classic yellow mustard works best for deviled eggs.
- Dill pickle juice: Add brightness and flavor to the filling by using juice from a jar of dill pickles.
- Panko bread crumbs: Use Panko for a crispier finish. Regular bread crumbs won't deliver the same result.
🍋Substitutions
- Dill pickle juice: You could also use distilled white vinegar or even lemon juice. Start with only 1 teaspoon though, and add more to taste. If you follow a gluten-free diet, check for certified gluten-free labels and always check ingredient labels. Most pickles are gluten-free, but some can contain additives that contain gluten.
- Flour: If you need a gluten-free option, use all-purpose gluten-free flour like Bob's Red Mill 1:1 Gluten-Free Baking Flour.
- Panko bread crumbs: For gluten-free panko, 4C Foods and Kikkoman make gluten-free versions.

🔪How to Make Air Fryer Deviled Eggs
- Place 6 eggs in the basket of the air fryer. Cook for about 15 minutes at 300 degrees. After 15 minutes, let them rest for an extra 3 minutes before opening the air fryer and placing the eggs in an ice bath. (if you've never 'boiled' eggs in the air fryer before, test 1 egg first. Some air fryers may require less time).
2. In 3 separate bowls, set up the dredging station. Prepare the flour mixture, egg wash, and panko breading.
3. Peel the eggs and slice them in half. Remove the yolks and place them in a small bowl.
4. Take the egg whites and cover them well with the flour mixture.
5. Then coat well with the egg wash.
6. Next, coat well with the Panko bread crumbs.
7. Place the breaded egg whites in the basket of an air fryer (do not overcrowd) and spray liberally with oil. Air fry at 400 degrees for about 7 to 8 minutes. I have to split this into two batches. In a preheated air fryer, they'll only take 5 to 6 minutes.
8. Mix the filling ingredients into the small bowl of egg yolks and mash with a fork until smooth. Place the filling in a piping bag and fill the fried egg whites, or use a spoon. Enjoy!
🧊Storing
Air fryer (fried) deviled eggs should be served immediately. Because they cannot be reheated, they do not store well in the refrigerator. Refrigerating the fried eggs will make the breading soggy. However, they can be safely eaten within 2 to 3 days of being stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I recommend removing the breading before eating refrigerated fried deviled eggs.
✅Pro Tips
- Test one egg in the air fryer before 'boiling' all of the eggs: If you've never made hard-boiled eggs in your air fryer, test one egg first. Each air fryer is a little bit different, so time and temperatures may slightly vary.
- Add the filling just before serving and do not refrigerate the fried egg whites: This will help keep them crisp as they should be before serving.
- This recipe can also be prepared without the crispy Panko breading: If you just want to enjoy classic deviled eggs, you can skip the breading and frying steps, and fill the egg whites as normal.
- Let the fried egg whites cool some before filling: The fried egg whites don't have to stay hot, just crisp. The filling should be slightly chilled, and you don't want the hot eggs melting the filling.
⁉️Frequently Asked Question
No. You should not put water in the air fryer when making boiled eggs. The eggs can be set directly in the air fryer basket without water.
Yes! You can make hard-boiled eggs in the air fryer to prepare deviled eggs, or take it a step further and make fried deviled eggs.
First, use cold eggs, and don't use your freshest eggs when making hard- boiled eggs. Aged eggs peel much easier. Second, let them sit a few minutes away from the heat before placing them in an ice bath. Allow them to cool in the ice bath for just a couple of minutes, then crack the egg by hitting it against the countertop and rolling it with gentle pressure. Allow cool water from the tap to run in between the boiled egg and the shell.
Brown spots on the air-fried eggs are a result of not cleaning the coils in your air fryer. This is harmless and most of it will come off in the ice bath.
